Meet the Team: Paula Shoemaker, Restoration Healthcare’s Office Manager

By: Restoration Healthcare

Paula Shoemaker thinks of herself as an office environmentalist, ensuring that a nurturing, caring environment — one that’s conducive to good health and a relaxed and comfortable workplace — surrounds the doctors, staff and patients here in Restoration Healthcare’s Irvine, Calif., office.

To that end, Paula (who joined our in-house team full-time at the beginning of 2017) is already hard at work. She’s streamlining our office’s tools and policies so that everyone here at Restoration Healthcare can leverage the good work that Drs. Raleigh and Bakman are doing for their patients, and she’s bringing love and a caring attitude with her when she arrives at the office each morning.

We cornered this savvy, entrepreneurial woman and asked her to fill us in on her professional and personal background. Here’s what Paula had to say:

Restoration Healthcare: What college did you attend and what was your major?

Paula Shoemaker: I went to The Ohio State University and I graduated with a degree in business in 1979. I loved my time at OSU where I meet lifetime friends. And even though I don’t have any family back there any more, I still return every five years for my high school reunion.

RH: What did you do prior to coming to work for Restoration Healthcare?

Paula: I’ve been in the medical field for more than 30 years. I’ve done just about everything. I’ve worked the front desk, answered phones, worked in the back office and done billing. Most of my experience is in office management. I’ve also done a little consulting with medical practices. Most of my medical background, however, came as the result of 15-plus years as an office manager for a retina specialist.

RH: What attracted you to start working at Restoration Healthcare?

Paula: Originally, I was looking for a job that enabled me to work from home, and for a year that’s what I was able to do by serving as Restoration Healthcare’s lead medical biller. When the opportunity to work in-house at the practice’s Office Manager came up, I jumped at the opportunity!

RH: When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?

Paula: I enjoying reading and going to the Colorado River with friends. I also work with a skincare company. But most of all I love spending time with my 26-year-old daughter.

RH: What reality TV should you be on and why would you win or be the first person kicked off?

Paula: Celebrity Apprentice. They work hard to win for their charities. I would either be first kicked off or I would win. Unfortunately, for many of these shows, people aren’t very nice to each other, so that might be why I’d want to be first to get kicked off. Otherwise, watch out!

RH: What’s one thing not many people know about you?

Paula: I’m afraid of bridges. I can go over them I just can’t be the one driving.
