By: Restoration Healthcare

When it comes to handling complex insurance paperwork and accounts receivable items, we’ve come to rely on Erin Cheney to complete these often-cumbersome tasks. And she does so with a smile on her face and a spring in her step. Not only that, but Erin doubles as a front office associate, juggling patient schedules, fielding phone calls and performing the type of customer service that makes Restoration Healthcare stand apart from other local medical providers.

Here are some other little-known factoids about this office dynamo:

Restoration Healthcare: What schools did you attend and what was your main field of interest?

Erin Cheney: In 2009, I began a two-year program for cosmetology at Fullerton College while working full-time at the Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) in Whittier. Promptly after finishing school, I took the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination and obtained my cosmetologist license. During my time at SCUHS, I did attend several billing seminars, but most of my auditing and billing knowledge is self-taught and based on experience.

RH: What did you do prior to coming to work for Restoration Healthcare?

Erin: Prior to working at Resto, I graduated from high school and was hired at SCUHS. My role on the Whittier campus was to oversee the front office and daily operations within the university’s Health Center (UHC). The UHC is a component of the school where the general public can seek care rendered by student interns under the direction of licensed clinicians to fulfill their degree and licensure requirements.

Ironically, my creative self always had a lifetime goal to become a hair stylist. Working for SCUHS enabled me to go that route, but at the same time, gain experience in an entirely different field. I truly enjoy the balance of both healthcare and beauty. After more than five years at SCUHS, I was hired part time at a physical medicine office where I met Dr. Bakman and also worked part time at a hair salon.

RH: What attracted you to start working at Restoration Healthcare?

Erin: The unique and futuristic model of cutting-edge healthcare is what attracted me to Restoration Healthcare. Functional Medicine is a brand new addition to my background in healthcare administration. Now that I understand this marriage of Eastern and Western medicine, I am so impressed with what the possibilities are for our world’s future in making people healthy.

RH: When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your spare time? Erin: When I’m not at work, I can be found spending time with my boyfriend, my friends and family, or attending advanced hair color and cutting courses, traveling, and enjoying the beautiful Southern California weather.

RH: What reality TV show do you think you’d enjoy being on, and why would you win or be kicked off?

Erin: I am not much of a television connoisseur, but from what others tell me, I would probably have a blast being featured on ‘The Voice’ or ‘Project Runway’ — The Voice for singing purposes and Project Runway for creative fashion design.

RH: What’s one thing not many people know about you?

Erin: I love to sing. Growing up, I was consistently involved in church and school choirs. I went to a Catholic parochial school for elementary and middle school. I had the opportunity to lead and cantor the congregation at school and weekly mass services. In high school, I participated in an advanced women’s ensemble and was accepting into a traveling show choir group. Nowadays, you can find me singing the likes of Adele, Celine Dion and Dixie Chicks at local karaoke spots.

RH: What advice would you offer someone reading this blog post that is considering booking their first appointment with Drs. Bakman and/or Raleigh?

Erin: For future patients, I would advise them to be ready for a brand new experience and a new outlook on their plan of care for becoming healthy and feeling great. Our office prides itself on offering a high level of service and care to our patients, which I think is a rarity nowadays. Both Dr. Bakman and Dr. Raleigh provide thorough, informative and positive experiences for their patients. Go ahead and check out our testimonials.
